Played online with a few friends today. The unofficial 1.3 patch, conversion map pack (Battlefront 1 maps, completely legal too), and +123 mod (play any gametype on any map that shipped with the game) makes things really, really fun.
The thing I like about this game is that it seems as if all of the mods will work together. Also, the 1.3 patch (which still lets you play online with people who don't have it) has gotten some rather great community support- it's definitely not something that everyone forgot about.
I should mention that there is a free camera mode for those into making machinima and such.
Well, I must be going now. The galaxy won't save itself, you know.

It's even more fun when you have mods and such. New maps, new weapons, etc etc, free camera, Battlefront 1 maps (legal too, because they don't use assets from the game). The 1.3 patch is unofficial but has some of the best support I've ever heard of.
